Al Zayani’s Nomination Expected to Ease Bahrain-Qatar Tension [May 29]
“Bahrain has named Abdul Lateef Bin Rashid Al Zayani as the next secretary-general of the Gulf Cooperation Council (GCC). The nomination announced late on Thursday is expected to put an end to a long and mostly silent dispute between Bahrain and Qatar, which had threatened to mar their relations and undermine the six-member GCC alliance. “The decision to nominate Al Zayani came in response to a letter His Majesty King Hamad Bin Eisa Al Khalifa received from King Abdullah Bin Abdul Aziz Al Saud, the Custodian of the Two Holy Mosques,” Bahrain News Agency (BNA) said.. ..The nomination announced officially last June was publicly endorsed by Kuwait, Oman, Saudi Arabia and the UAE. Bahrain Member of the UN Sport for Development and Peace [May 29]
“Bahrain has been chosen member of the UN Sport for Development and Peace during a meeting held in Geneva in the presence of officials representing over 24 countries. General Organisation for Youth and Sport president’s advisor Amal Al Dosary attended the meeting. “This UN honour is in recognition of Bahrain’s status on the international sports arena”, she said. Bahrain represents Asia in the panel’s executive bureau which includes also Ghana, Brazil, Britain, and Australia.
